This is what I am talking about.
Nothing looks more lame than a site with the last entry three months ago, and the only comment is some junk mail crap.
A thread can be started like
NEW beer bars in Tokyo/Yokohama
BEER FESTIVALS
HOMEBREW SUPPLIES
and so on.
This way you can keep your blog stocked with regular information.
PLUS you can use it in a way you originally intended.
